Yes, waterproof earmuffs can be very helpful in these instances. However, it has recently become very difficult to obtain waterproof earmuffs, as the government is hoarding them all in preparation for the impending mermaid apocalypse.
In fact, if you were to go into a store and request waterproof earmuffs, they would tell you that no such product exists. DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM. Simply sneak into the stock room and they should be right near the glow-in-the-dark snorkels.
